1 ========== minutes of HERAFitter User's meeting 22.04.2013 ============= 2 Status (post beta3): 3 ==================== 4 - beta-3 released in March, plan to have stable release in October (freeze deliverable by 1 August) 5 - call for feedback for possible improvements (feedback collected on a dedicated web page for developers to address) 6 - planned publication, references, benchmarking/validatons under consideraton 7 - future developments: 8 - short term (planned to be included in the stable) 9 o scale variation (done) 10 o ACOT NNLO (ongoing) 11 o QED PDF (ongoing) 12 - long term (planned): 13 o ACOT in QCDNUM 14 o EW corrections 15 o Intrinsic charm (proposed after discussion) 16 o Different evolu5on schemes 17 o top codes, HATHOR still performant (was discussed and agreed to have a presentation from Sebastian at the next User's meeting) 18 o Additional tools to transform covariance matrix to nuisance parameter representation 19 o Alterna5ve to MINUIT minimiza5on package 20 21 22 23 Next meeting foreseen end of May (28 or 29, doodle set) 24 25 http://doodle.com/6h3mrx4e5saw68m6 26 27 28 ======= 29 Mandy gave a summary on last PDF4LHC meeting (which took place at CERN 17 Apr), 30 covering updated on all main PDF fitting groups and future prospects. 31 discussion on the PDF wish list at LHC (slide 14): 32 - jets/di-jets: machinery exists in HERAFitter 33 - APPLGRID interface to photon dedicated codes (such as JETPHOX) 34 - Interface of APPLGRID to MCFM for W+charm (done) 35 - Applgid interface to DYNNLO (ongoing), 36 - off-resonance DY (ongoing) 37 - ttbar: Harthor and MCFM with Applgid in HERAFitter; Harthor recent updated version released, 38 should be implemented into HERAFitter (NNLO with resumations) 39 - single top: Harthor is not updated but possible to use MCFM 40 - Intrinsic charm: requires extra parametrisation for charm in HERAFitter (to be done) 41 - charminium production: not clear (those are long term plans) 42 - nuclear PDFs: interest from CTEQ (Ingo + Tzvetalina), long term 43 44 ====== 45 Renat presented fast evaluation of gamma gamma->ll cross sections using Applgrid, 46 the stand alone Applgrid to SANC MC created and tested with MRST2004qed pdfs, 47 impementation into HERAFitter is ongoing as it relies on generalized evolution 48 kernels in QCDNUM (onging efforts from M. Botje) 49 Results that were presented were validated against the paper arXiv:0911.2329v2. 50 and very good agreement was found. The effect increases for high masses, reaching 51 up to 6% contribution/ 52 53 comments to Renat's talk: 54 - mu_f is factorisation scale, set to Z mass for comparisons from paper 55 it's not so relevant what exactly it is used, however it was questioned the 56 size of the elastic cross section contribution which was assumed 57 to be small at LHC (reduced with cuts) - to be checked. 58 59 ===
